Carnival at Ball Park Assault Leaves Teen Critical

Sam McCorkle a 14 year old Black youth was struck near Home Banking Company corner Monday night leaving a critical head injury. Three Black bystanders claim white youths chased and threw rocks. Henry Davis arrested as an accomplice but denies throwing rocks. Davis later released on 500 bond. McCorkle underwent skull surgery. condition critical with uncertain outcome. Officers continue investigation amid May festival promotions at Argyle shows managed by G R Gibbs.

City Schools Commencement Exercises and Related Events

Commencement exercises followed Friday city school closing with class day events. A Saturday reception by junior and senior girls occurred at Lincoln Memorial hall. Sunday morning Rev T F Marr of Salisbury gave the union sermon. Dr D W Daniel of Clemson College delivered the commencement address to a large crowd.

Death of Mrs Levi Briggs at age 59 in city home

Mrs Levi Briggs aged 59 died late Saturday morning at her southern city home. She left four married children. A flat funeral service was held at a house by Rev H H Robbins of Wain Street M E church Monday morning, then interment followed at Kernersville.

Quart Curtis Sappenfield Arrested on Retailing Charge

Curtis Sappenfield was arrested Tuesday for retailing but acquitted in Recorder's Court due to insufficient evidence. The defense showed he had exactly one quart of liquor in three receptacles before Judge Dalton. Governor May Pardon Stripling Likely in Georgia

The Georgia State Prison Board sent a report to Governor Harris on a pardon request for Charles Edgar Stripling, former police chief of Danville, Virginia. Board chairman R. E. Davison favored the pardon, two members opposed, and Harris said he would study the matter and decide soon, with belief he may grant clemency despite prior unanimous opposition.

Memorial Sunday Service Unites Guilford O U A M Lodges

A memorial service was held in the Guilford Council lodge room bringing together Junior Orders and Sons and Daughters Councils from Guilford 23 Trophy 29 Mechanicsville 347 South High Point 430 Pioneer 52 Victory 63 and High Point Council. State Deputy J W Sechrest led the service with tributes for 13 members who died in the past year. After prayers and tributes at the hall the group marched to the cemetery where graves were decorated. over one thousand attendees.

Negro Worker Dies in 110-Volt Shock Mystery

George Holland a 23 year old African American mill worker in the dye department at High Point Hostesy mills was found dead Tuesday night with an electric light wire grasped in his hands. Although the voltage was only 110, electricians found no fault in the line and the death remains a mystery.

Scouts Begin Camp Near Old Schooner Camp

Twenty scouts joined about forty already in camp under Scout Master Marr. The party travels by a sea rated craft carrying belongings and rations for a week.
