High Point Pageant Showed Off 1600 Children in May Day Parade

The High Point May Day pageant drew over 1600 schoolchildren from ages six to eighteen marching along Main Street before thousands. Elm Street and Indian groups led the parade with guards on horseback, followed by states and themes from Columbus to Georgia and Old Time Slavery. The event, a Federation of Women’s Clubs attraction, cost families at least 3500 and left spectators praising the display as a sublime sight worth annual repetition.

Fishing party and visitors noted in local Route 2 items

High Point Robbery Convictions Lead to Prison Terms

Henry Grissom and Jule Fagg were convicted of robbing High Point Motor Co and stealing ties valued at 300 dollars. Fagg received 18 months and Grissom 14 months on the roads for larceny of automobile tires. Other defendants include Arthur Williams jailed two years for armed robbery, John H. Champlin given 30 months on the road for stealing a diamond ring, and Chas Hand found guilty on appeal for wife beating.

Randolph County Man Dies in Trinity Neighborhood

Dr Cicero Frazier longtime Randolph County resident and noted dentist died Monday after a prolonged illness. He was father to Dr A E Frazier and Clarence Frazier and relative to Mrs L C Barbee. Funeral held Tuesday at home with Confederate Veterans taking part at Prospect burying ground.

Mother's Day Rose Tribute Prompts Civic Show of Gratitude

Man Guilty of First Degree Murder in Cotton Mill Killing

Monroe Johnson was found guilty of murder in the first degree for the March 6 shooting of Carl Preddy in the spinning room of the White Oak cotton mill. Judge Cline sentenced him to electrocution at the state penitentiary on June 16 and warned of little chance for appeal or pardon.

Death of Robert Staley in Julian After Lingering Illness

Robert Staley died Tuesday evening at his home in Julian after a lingering illness from Brights disease. He was a brother of D. F. Staley jeweler of this city Dr A P Staley of Winston Mrs Florence Staley of Julian and Mes sers Joseph and Lamb Staley of Juhan. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the home and the interment was in the family plot near Julian. Mrs D F Staley accompanied her husband to the funeral.

Warrant Served Over Sale of Intoxicants at Grissom Drug

A warrant was served on the Grissom Drug Company in Greensboro last week charging the sale of intoxicants. The drug store reportedly sold Henry Freeman a lemon extract containing 90 percent alcohol, who appeared in court Monday on a drunkenness charge.

Alleged Blockader Brady Arrested in Greensboro

John Brady a white man alleged to have operated a blockade in Montgomery county was arrested Tuesday in Greensboro by Deputy Marshal Boger. He waived a preliminary hearing posted bond for the June term and has since moved to Randolph county. Prof and Mrs Sneed visited the Sheltons this week. The Lexington mill boys defeated High Point 13 to 1 Saturday.

Royal Hosiery Mills organized in High Point

Messers T A Gurney J W and O E Kearns are principal stockholders in Royal Hosiery Mills with 5400 paid in capital and 100600 authorized. Plant at 518 Hamilton Street with J W Kearns as active manager. Machinery order placed for 10000 arriving this month. initial production to be 50 percent with plans to enlarge. The 220 leader machines are described as top on the market. Hosiery business has been strong in High Point for 15 years.

Memorial day was observed with flowers on Confederate graves by the daughters of the High Point chapter U D C. Governor Craig urged a special Guilford county criminal term for the June 12 start to handle pending docket cases. Can't Vote Split Ticket in Legalized Primary

Attorney General T. W. Bickett rules that voters who consistently back the Democratic state and county tickets may participate in the Democratic primary and vote state and county boxes, but cannot vote in the national box of either party. The ruling allows ticket consistency in the primary while permitting division only in the general election.

Big Order for Cars From New York Railway Secures 70 Autos

The Southern Car company lands a contract worth about 200000 dollars for 70 cars from a New York railway client. The deal marks one of the firm’s largest orders. Also, Miss Dorg Hill wed Lee T. Stanton at the Reformed church parsonage with Rev. L A Peeler presiding.
