Fire destroys High Point Show Case Works and surrounding homes

A major blaze early Tuesday leveled the High Point Show Case Works, owned by Frank Gurley, valued at $11,000, plus the two story Kirkman brick building and household effects of John Squires. Fire damaged the Huffman and Howell homes. wind and flying embers scattered debris across the city. Gurley, uninsured, attributed the loss to divine will and pledged to rebuild or redefine his work as part of a larger spiritual lesson.

Death of W I Underwood Patriot editor in McLeansville

W I Underwood longtime editor of the Greensboro Patriot died Friday at 4 30 am at his McLeansville home after a four year battle with tuberculosis. He previously edited the Charlotte Chronicle and later served as advertising and office manager for Greensboro Life and Insurance. He returned to run the Patriot until ill health prevented further work.
