Death of Lizzie Craven Ends After Operation at Local Hospital

Mrs. Lizzie V. Craven died at the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a tumor operation performed over a week earlier. She was 45, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Welborn of Route 2 Thomasville, and mother of Bunyon Mendenhall, Avery Craven, and Fred Craven. Sister and brother are Mrs. John Hayworth and John Welborn. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Welch Memorial Church conducted by Rev. F. D. Shelton.

J. B. Donnell of Helena Montana, a North Carolinian by birth, is visiting relatives and the city schools to compare the west with the south in education. He left Alamance County in 1887 and has spent 25 years teaching in the northwest. He is uncle to Mrs. Hunter C Sechrest. He plans to return to North Carolina every 7 or 8 years.

Greensboro High Point road follows old route with rail underpass

The project will reuse the old road path and add an underpass at the fair grounds railroad crossing. A mile and a half more good road will head toward Guilford College. Commissioners’ donations from both routes will fund the roads.

Humane Week Observed with Humane Sunday Sermons

The week of May 15 to May 20 is set as Humane Week with May 21 named Humane Sunday when ministers will preach on kindness to animals. The appeal urges support for this movement and to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Remodeling auditorium upgrades for Main Street school

The Main Street school auditorium will be remodeled to create incline floors. New opera chairs 16 inches wide with hat racks will be installed. About $1,000 will be spent and the work aims to be finished by the May commencement exercises.

Ernest Welch, age 19, rises to second base for the Macon team in the South Atlantic League. A former Piedmont and North Carolina Leagues player, he also appeared in Columbia in 1914 and last season starred for Greensboro.
