Deplorable murder shocks Archdale community

Left English, a dog trainer at Archdale, shot and mortally wounded Jack Armstrong, Gould Kennels manager, at the Horace Ragan place in Archdale. Armstrong died within hours after the Monday shooting. English surrendered Tuesday afternoon and is jailed in Asheboro. Funeral services for Armstrong were held at Dr J A Turner’s home with Masons and Elks in attendance.

Wounded arms and injuries report from local incidents

Ed. Brown broke his right arm while cranking an automobile last week. Chas. Wright fell from a motorcycle Monday and injured his left hand and wrist.

Hospital Busy Monday With Multiple Surgeries

City hospital reported a busy Monday with several operations. Mrs W. B. Hinshaw had a tumor removed, Mrs. Howard of Star underwent appendicitis surgery, and Mr. Beck of Denton had major skull surgery. Also admitted were Miss Tysinger of Denton and Miss Smith of Sparta for procedures.

Death of Mr Freeman in Memphis and local funeral

Herbert Freeman, a well known local figure, died in a Memphis hospital last Friday. His remains arrived here Tuesday and were interred at Archdale. Dr G F Duncan has returned from New York after five weeks away. The Carnival of Sports is scheduled for April 4 at the Industrial Club rooms.

Hollow Horn Bear Dies After Inauguration Visit

Hollow Horn Bear, a leading Sioux chief whose likeness appears on the new five dollar bills, died in Washington after attending President Wilsons inauguration. Once seen as a turbulent figure, he became a respected leader on the Rosebud reservation following the late 19th century uprisings. His death leaves Chief Red Shirt as the last great Sioux war chief.

Meeting Monday Night at Industrial Club Rooms

Citizens gathered at the Industrial Club Rooms for a stockholders style city update led by Mayor Tate. He outlined past two year finances, responded to revenue questions, and discussed a sinking fund proposal while noting lawsuits over the sewer outlet and a protective legislative move by Representative Gold. A revival service started at the First Reformed Church.

Mascott's to Lecture at The Rose on March 27

At The Rose today for one day only the Mascott brothers, ex Kalem and Vitagraph performers, will present travel lectures with slides from a 10,000 mile journey. They have 6,829 miles logged and a Rambler tandem on display. Admission is 10 cents. The theater opens at 1 09 p m.
