Fire destroys three Gould lodge buildings near Jamestown

Three buildings at the George Gould hunting lodge near Jamestown burned on Sunday afternoon, destroying a stable a granary and another outbuilding. Fifteen horses and substantial grain were lost with damage around 20000 dollars. The lodge itself was spared and the fire’s cause remains unknown. The destroyed structures will likely be replaced soon.

High Point Cotton Warehouse Charters New Firm

The High Point Warehouse and Storage Company organized to run a cotton warehouse in High Point filed its charter yesterday with authorized capital stock of $125,000. Five thousand dollars of this was subscribed by H. D. F. M. Pickett and R. H. Wheeler, both of High Point.

Mrs Mary Ann Jackson widow of Gen Stonewall Jackson dies in Charlotte yesterday. Mayor Bland issues proclamation closing city hall and suspending business at 4 30 funeral hour. Schools observe holiday and court adjourns as respect to this noble woman of the south and the Confederacy.

Organ Recital Tomorrow Night at Wesley Memorial

An organ recital by Prof. Mortimer Browning from the Peabody Conservatory will be at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church Friday at 7 45 p m. His wife Madam Pauline Abbott Browning assists. Admission is free but a collection for the organ fund will be taken.

The Rose Opera Co has secured Fox Pictures shown on Broadway New York. One Fox picture will be shown each Friday and after the Master Key finishes a second Fox picture will be shown on Saturday. Tomorrow's Fox film is the Silver Lining.

Death of Mrs. Dawkins at West Ashboro

Mrs. J. R. Dawkins died at her West Ashboro home Sunday evening at age 35. Described as a person of high character she succumbed to tuberculosis. Funeral and burial took place Monday at the old family cemetery about 15 miles south of Ashboro with Rev. J. E. Thompson officiating. Survived by two children and her husband.

School Closings and March Programs Across Local Schools

Davis Mountain will close Wednesday March 31 with old time exhibition starting 10 30 am and welcome address by the schools followed by Rev J E Thompson address. Dinner on the ground and afternoon dialogues music plus an old time spelling bee to end the day. Oak Ridge near Seagroves closes March 27 with appropriate exercises. Patterson Grove and Fair Grove close late week with Patterson Grove Friday and Fair Grove Saturday. A H York will provide refreshments at each location. On Saturday March 27 at 3 pm Randleman Council No 31 Jr O U A M with Royal Council No 72 Daughters of Liberty will present a flag and Bible to White Hall School and an interesting program is planned.

Open Up New Street Aims To Link West City Westview Area

Workmen began building a new street from the western city area toward the Westview development adjoining Roland Park. J T May state counsellor of the Daughters of Liberty spoke at the local lodge on The Progress of the Order in the South. Visitors came from Greensboro and Lexington as Mr Tucker of the Southern Railway recovers from appendicitis and may undergo operation.

The funeral of Mrs. W. M. Brown was held at Mount Zion church near Trinity on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Rev. Ed Suits conducted the service. She died Monday night after a short illness from pneumonia.

Fire at Ashboro Destroys Two Homes

A morning blaze in West Ashboro destroyed Thaddeus Auman's house and contents and damaged Sam Barnes' home and about half its contents. Both houses were new and the loss hits workers from the local shop. Auman carried $300 insurance while Barnes had none.
