Lexington Cashier Killed in Home Def Encounter

J Graham Hege shot and killed J Franklin Deadrick, cashier of the Commercial and Savings Bank of Lexington, at Hege’s home on Tuesday at 1 p m. Hege claims the shooting was in defense of home. Both men are described as well and favorably known.

Secret Moose Lodge Formed In Local Effort

Tuesday night a partial organization of a local Loyal Order of Moose lodge formed with about 35 taking the oath. Next Tuesday night plans aim for 150 members with officers to be elected. Deputy F P Morton of Greensboro is organizing the lodge and hopes to reach 1600 members.

Memorial Day Planned by United Confederate Veterans

At the regular meeting the United Confederate Veterans camp voted to hold memorial services for their dead on May 10 and place bronze crosses of honor on graves in the Confederate plot at the cemetery. Flags and flowers will accompany the crosses, with Tesh's orchestra providing music. Daughters and Children of the Confederacy will be honored guests as local business firms are asked to grant veterans a holiday on Friday May 1 6. One new member, J Wesley Myers, was admitted. Parkway women provided and served a hot lunch, followed by fruit jelly with whipped cream and cake.
