Remembered by what he has done in life
The obituary recalls David L. Clark of High Point born July 8 1824 who died at his East Washington street home. He helped plan the town since 1856 and contributed oil paintings for the Guilford Battle Ground Company. He valued nature and art, married Elizabeth Ann Alston in 1854, had no children but raised nephews, and was active in M E church and local Masons. Funeral services were at Wesley Memorial church with Masons aiding at the grave.

White woman assaulted near Presbyterian church
Annie Maynard a 35 year old white woman was found severely wounded near the Presbyterian church by Dr. H. B. Hiatt after a heavy blow to the head. Ivy Stout was identified by the victim as her assailant. two other men were present. He allegedly attacked during a disputed “divy-up” game after failing to receive a share of proceeds. The case is expected to raise sensational testimony and involve others.

Jamestown Election Set for April 20 Bond Vote
Guilford county commissioners ordered an April 20 election in the Jamestown special tax school district after receiving a petition signed by over 25 percent of freeholders and endorsed by the Guilford County Board of Education. The vote seeks a 15000 bond to replace the high school building destroyed by fire in February.

Thaw Back to Matteawall Order Upheld by Court
In New York on March 16 Justice Page denied Harry K. Thaw’s request to be sent back to New Hampshire. The judge ordered Thaw returned to Matteawall unless papers to keep him at the Tombs were served. Counsel had already secured a writ of habeas corpus from Justice Bijur to keep Thaw in the Tombs until next Friday for court production.

New Bern March 16 a giant meteor weighing thousands of pounds fell near Vanceboro causing a loud explosion heard for miles.
