High Point approves nonpartisan city amendments by wide margin

The High Point vote backs amendments to end current city officials and establish nonpartisan elections. In four wards 829 ballots were cast with 631 for and 198 against, a 433 vote majority, reflecting strong approval and signaling a move away from partisan city governance. Wards totals show 123, 102, 76, and 132 majorities in favor.

Died After Appendicitis for Sammy Burton

Sammy Burton, 21, died Monday afternoon at the hospital after an appendectomy. He was a bright young man, a hard worker, and well liked. His family lived a few miles west of High Point. His mother is Mrs. Mary Burton. Funeral services were held on Wednesday.

Death of High Point Citizen J F Hoffman

Longtime High Point resident Joe F Hoffman died at his South Main Street home after several days illness. Born in 1842 in Chester County Pennsylvania he lived in the community for decades and served as Chief of Police for 15 years. Survived by two children Harry Hoffman and Mrs Will Elliott and seven grandchildren, his will valued the estate at 25 000 to 30 000 dollars with executors David Parsons and Joe Hoffman Jr. A large funeral was held at South Main Street M E Church with many family, fraternal and veterans representatives in attendance.

Baltimore March 13 Rear Admiral Peary spoke at a preparedness meeting for children urging vigorous US spending on defense. He warned war could bring aeroplanes dropping bombs over seaboard cities and noted three ships entered Hampton Roads recently without warning, with the Appan housing squadrons and planes carrying large explosives. Gibbons urged every boy to be 100 percent patriotic and ready to sacrifice to defend the United States.

Commercial Course At School in The Review
