The girl suffered a bruised hip and vomiting blood but survived, with no broken bones, after immediate first aid.

Fire contained by prompt actions at local chair plant

A small blaze in the boiler room of the Tomlinson Chair Mfg plant was discovered Saturday night and extinguished by quick fire department response. Had firefighters not acted promptly, the fire could have spread and caused serious damage.

A major blaze in Thomasville destroyed the Hoover Chair Co plant early Monday, with extensive lumber loss. Fire started when a spark from the engine room ignited a grease coated belt, spreading quickly. Several small nearby houses were also burned. damage estimated at about 75,000 dollars, only partially insured.

Aged Woman J M Franklin Dies at 63

Mrs J M Franklin died Saturday morning at 9 at her son's West Russell Street home aged 63. She leaves four children. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 pm from South Main Street M E church conducted by Rev H H Robbins. Interment followed in Oakwood cemetery.

High Point Furnishers Will Help U S Government

High Point manufacturers voted to take on government work in addition to their regular line. They cite patriotic duty as the reason and plan a 60 hour week with earlier hours and no half Saturdays. A Washington Furniture Manufacturers Association contract for eight million dollars worth wagon parts supports the effort. More workers will be needed and wages will remain good.

Council Approves Paving on Montlieu and Nearby Avenues

The city council ordered continued paving with Montlieu Avenue due to finish around April 5. Completion of Centennial Avenue and West Broad Street follows, with the program ending unless bond sale conditions improve. Additional streets such as Parkway Steele Lindsay and West High are sought. The Roland Park refunding matter was postponed again.

Guilford County Ministers Propose County Public Welfare Board

Public Welfare reports that Rev. Gilbert T. Rowe Rev. Sylvester Newlin and Rev. Thos L Trott head a committee of High Point clergy to present to Guilford County commissioners a plan to establish a county board of public welfare with a full-time paid superintendent.

Man enters store room at Redding building

James Soyars, a colored man, was seen entering a store room in the Redding building Monday and leaving through a rear window. No items were reported missing as the candy and hosiery were stored inside the room. Police are seeking the man.
