Veterans Hold Meeting With Daughters of Confederacy Guests

The veterans prepared Saturday afternoon for Daughters of the Confederacy and citizens who helped with uniforms. A short business session preceded a program recalling the recent Washington reunion. Pepsi-Cola Bottling Works donated beverages cooled by Kandy Kitchen ice. Peach ice cream and cake followed, with Mrs. Wilbur Jones supplying the cake served by Iris Burrus. Mrs. Henri Turner presented a framed picture of Woodrow Wilson to the camp. The sponsor was aided by Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Turner.

Negro killed by passenger train at East Crossing

Rumley Johnson a colored man was struck and killed by passenger train No 31 at 5 20 Sunday morning at the second railroad crossing east. He stepped from a freight car into the path of the train. He lived at 115 Fairview street.

Auto Accident Causes Death of local teacher

Dean Thoron Thompson, a white unmarried man and a former Lowell public school teacher, died from injuries after an automobile crash June 8 in Randolph County. He graduated from the University of North Carolina and taught at Lowell last term. The remains were taken to Ramseur for burial at Rehobeth church. Surviving are his parents Mr and Mrs Adam Thompson, a sister Effie and Mrs C Smith, and brothers Wesley and Edward, Route 3 Ramseur.
