Small Blaze Sunday at Doda Mead Flats

At 12 20 Sunday afternoon a fire alarm from box 46 reported a blaze at the Doda Mead flats in the J H Womble portion of the house on East Green Street. An oil lamp explosion started the fire. firefighters and occupants kept damage to about 400 dollars with Southside Company arriving first and gaining control before the second company arrived.

Death of an Old Veteran H J Dobbs

Henry James Dobbs 80, prominent High Point resident and member of Masonic and Elks lodges, died Friday morning after returning from a Richmond reunion. His remains go to Amherst Virginia for interment with lodge delegation. Survived by wife Annie D Quarles, son Joseph, daughter Nellie, and twin brother T E Dobbs of Baltimore.

R. E. Moffitt Dies After Ill Health in Coleridge

Reuben E. Moffitt 92 a longtime Coleridge Township resident at Coles Store died after a paralysis attack last Friday. A Civil War veteran and elderly man, he left a widow not alive and two children. He was survived by nine grandchildren. Funeral and burial were held at Brush Creek on Saturday.

Earthquakes Hit California Causing Losses at Calexico

A severe quake was felt in California with Calexico suffering the greatest damage and five fatalities. Fire followed the quakes destroying property and martial law was declared in the effected zone. The Summer Conference of the M P church at the Children’s Home drew strong attendance with speeches by Rev C M Compher Lynchburg on Wings and Stings and Rev J E McCulloch editor of the M P Herald on Theories of the Atonement. Dr T H Lewis closed with The Triumph of the Bible in History as Miss Katherine Pickett hosted Camp Fire Girls with ice cream and cake before next meeting at Miss Odell Peacock’s home. Bryan passed through en route to New York to address a peace meeting.
