Well Known Woman Passes After Operation

Mrs. Mary S. Powell aged 61 dies Tuesday morning at a local hospital after an operation to save her life. The remains go to Franklin County Virginia for burial after a short funeral at the home. Survived by two children Mrs. Darrell Pitts and W T Powell of this city.

First High Pointer Gives His Life for Humanity

Private Geo C Wright of 716 Russell Street High Point was killed by a German shell in the May 29th battle. He was among the first to go overseas from High Point on June 6 1917. His mother recalls his wish to fight for his country and his brothers vow to join to avenge him urging a monument at the front inscribed with Wrights name and possibly others.

Auto theft gang halts at Thomasville bivouac

Policeman Ed Allen captured seven negroes and a stolen auto belonging to H A Millis after midnight Friday. Four getaway occupants escaped. The gang had planned a Lexington blow out, but the Millis car ran out of gas near Thomasville where Allen stopped them until assistance arrived from High Point. The men were jailed and fined two dollars each for auto theft. Mrs R Young died at her Trinity home and was sent to Norfolk for interment.

Miss Louise Clinard and M. J. Wrenn wed Tuesday night at the bride’s Richardson street home with Rev. J. A. Clarke officiating. The ceremony united a High Point Furniture Co. executive with one of the city’s leading citizens, as they depart for a northern honeymoon and plan to reside in Mr. Wrenn’s colonial home.
