One Hundred Cents Day Arrives in High Point

High Point prepares for One Hundred Cents Day on Saturday with hundreds traveling from nearby areas to the town of 15 000 to shop at fifty plus stores offering special value at the magic price of one dollar. Merchants Association cards will mark participating merchants while the event aims to deliver over a thousand dollars in value and boost local trade.

Monument to Nathaniel Greene at Battle Ground

A tall monument to Nathaniel Greene at Battle Ground rises with a horse and rider on a 10 foot pedestal, faced by a marble court and brass cannon. Built of Mt. Airy granite with copper figures and copper wording, it attracted a large crowd on Sunday as completion targets July 4.

Auto crash near Penny farm injures Mrs McAnally and child

Monday night near the Penny farm a bad auto accident occurred as Mrs. W. J. McAnally and her year old child were painfully though not seriously hurt. Dr. McAnally and family were northbound, Mr. Sinclair and three companions were southbound toward High Point. The left headlight of the McAnally car was out, and the Sinclair car lights blinded by passing likely caused the collision. Dr. McAnally escaped serious injury while the Sinclair party suffered no injuries. Both cars were badly damaged with an estimated cost around 500 dollars.

Bryan resigns as Secretary of State in Wilson cabinet

Secretary of State William Jennings Bryan resigned Tuesday over Wilson administration policy toward Germany. President Wilson accepted the resignation and the cabinet approved it. Acting Secretary Robert Lansing was named to sign the note to Germany sent to Berlin yesterday. Bryan, a three time Democratic presidential candidate and author of nearly thirty peace treaties, returned to private life on Wednesday.

Jamestown High School held graduation Friday evening with six graduates Recipients were Vivian Hayworth Nettie Groome Rennie Gibbons Berta Cook Hugh Williard and Van Wheeler diplomas were presented by Prof E J Coletrane Supt Thornwell Haynes of High Point gave the address Work has begun on a new Jamestown High School building expected to be ready for the fall term About $24000 is allocated for the new structure which will be built about a quarter mile from the old site on surrounding land.

One ribbon in old gold and red marks Baden Germany the other in black white and red for the German Empire. Fire of unknown origin consumed the Erie Fire Company engine house at Georgetown New York. Both engines and other apparatus were burned. No injuries reported.
