Bond issue for a $250000 Guilford courthouse failed in Tuesday’s election with 932 votes for and 3987 against across 18 precincts. Greensboro and High Point showed strong opposition, while other towns also leaned against the measure. Alvin R. Hammer came back from Richmond with news of a large veterans crowd and a visit to the Seven Pines battle trenches from the war. Cold rain caused illness and shortened visits. Richmond people treated the veterans kindly and other High Point veterans arrived home.

North Carolina Sunday School Gaps Highlighted by Confederate Vet

Major Orren R. Smith of Louisburg, NC is credited by Confederate veterans with designing the first flag of the Confederate States on March 4. The notice cites 665,500 NC adults of church age outside the church in 1906, 1,081 churches having no Sunday schools, and 222,300 school age children outside Sunday schools, urging churches to act locally.
