Miss Anne Burkheimer 23 of Charlotte drowned in Banks Channel at Wrightsville Beach while bathing. Don Kirkman of High Point died attempting to rescue her. Judson Barber helped pull Burkheimer ashore but she died. Kirkman, recently returned from overseas, remains missing. Funeral held at Wesley Memorial Church.

Little Girl Killed by Street Car No 43
Florence Elizabeth Stadiem five years old daughter of Mr and Mrs Morris Stadiem was instantly killed Thursday evening at 7 o'clock when struck by street car number 43 of the North Carolina Public Service company on South Elm. Motorman C E Ellington tried to stop but the car dragged the body 33 feet across brick pavement. The child was crossing from Walker avenue toward Odell Hardware company store. Ellington was held on $2500 bond for a preliminary hearing likely Monday. No inquest was ordered.
