Bridge Withstands Flood on Yadkin River

Sunday a High Point party toured the Yadkin river bridge to view flood damage. Water rose over banks for miles, washing away approaches on the Davidson side while arches and rock piers held firm against debris. A lone wooden chair floated by as observers recalled human stories amid the flood’s aftermath.

Get Together Meeting Held by Methodist Protestants

The Methodist Protestants of this section plan a get together meeting at Pleasant Grove M. P. Church between here and Thomasville. A large crowd is expected. The event runs from 10 a m to 4 p m with Essentials for Churches as the theme.

Local dog deemed mad after bite incidents near Raleigh

The Pickett family and associates traveled to Raleigh for Pasteur treatment after a bull pup with hydrophobia bit several people. Most were severely bitten. O P Pickett and Clifton Pickett avoided major wounds. The dog was examined in Raleigh and labeled mad. the group must stay three weeks.

Death of Aged Man Near Fairfield Church

Uncle Tommy Modlin died at his home four miles south of here near Fairfield Church. Funeral services set for tomorrow morning at eleven o clock. He was between 85 and 90 years old and had suffered from age and infirmities for the past three years. A wife survives him. He was one of the oldest citizens in this section.

Recent marriages Cupid pulls off a double

Last week at the home of Eugene Lovett in Highland Cotton Mills Miss Lillian Black and Allen Jones were made one and just afterwards Miss Addie Satten field became the bride of C. Thomas. A J. M. Hilliard tied the double net. Married Saturday night. Miss Mamie Young to Troy Campbell at the bride’s home with Rev. J. M. Hilliard officiating. In Jamestown Miss Louise Gardner wed John Neese at the home of the bride with Rev. L A. Peeler officiating. Miss Dela Murphy of Thomasville married Edward Phaff of Mt. Tabor in Winston. the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Murphy.

Deaths in Ramseur Area Include Two Year Old and Others

Carl Matthews aged two died of meningitis and was laid to rest in Ramseur after services. Ella Fink aged twenty died of typhoid at English Street home. she was a recent bride of a month or two. O F Lewis, fifty, died suddenly at home on Tomlinson Street. funeral at Friends Church with large attendance. Lewis worked at Snow Lumber Company and belonged to Jr. Order Patriotic Sons of America and Daughters of Liberty. floral tributes noted.

Handles Worthless Strips of Paper

A white man calling himself W. A. Carl used aliases to cash worthless checks at Lexington Grocery Co and Wachovia Bank, with another $25 check tied to W. M. Barnes of Greensboro. He vanished, leaving a pattern of no good checks signed under various names. Police are tracking the suspect, with cold trails today after recent activity in Winston and Greensboro.
