The giant Hadley Page airplane Atlantic under Vice Admiral Kerr landed in Parrsboro Nova Scotia at 5:30 am after departing Harbor Grace Newfoundland. The 1200 mile voyage was diverted by fog causing engine trouble and a forced landing. No crew members were injured.

Grandstand at State Fair Grounds Burns in Fourth of July Fire

A fire at the Raleigh state fair grounds destroyed the grandstand during motorcycle races on July 4. Origin unknown but a dropped match suspected. fire crews lacked facilities and could not save the structure, though others on the grounds were spared. The grandstand, among the oldest buildings, is partially insured and will be rebuilt for October fair crowds. Heat forced abandonment of the races.
