High Point North Carolina a leading furniture center records a 50.2 percent population rise from 1910 to 1920. Census figures released show the city at 14 302 residents, up 4 777 in ten years.
The Commercial National Bank’s board declared a regular semi annual dividend, the 58th, at 6 percent totaling 39000 dollars. Authorized capital stock rose to 1 1 400 from 500000 on January 1. Officers say early results after the increase are encouraging.
Mrs Lucy Samuel widow of A W Samuel died Friday night at 11 near her home at 208 Pest street after a paralysis stroke. She was 72 and survived by her husband and seven children including Robert Samuel N G Samuel R D Samuel and Mrs Inezoung of tri n Mrs Paul Laffoon. Funeral services were held Sunday at 8 pm by Rev E W Rose pastor of West Baptist Church. Interment followed in Saville cemetery.
Syllie Simpson and Ronald A. Dayen of this city united in marriage Thursday night at 9 o'clock at the Baptist parsonage on Main Street by Rev. James A. Key. They will honeymoon to Washington and northern points then reside in Point. Mrs. Craven, daughter of Mr and Mrs George T. Simpson of Albemarle NC, has many local friends. Mr. Craven is formerly of Abbott's Creek and now works for Sicclair Hardware Co in this city.
The Piedmont Building and Loans association announced a new Billy Malone stock series to be issued and offered for sale on July 15. The move is expected to interest local homeowners as Billy Malones have funded many recent High Point home constructions.
A landlord in a Yorkshire town faced a disputatious tenant who offered only a half-crown toward arrears, complaining the offer is small despite the rent. The exchange reflects local tensions as the report notes a back door remark hinting at debts and disputes in a short, clipped town scene.
Jealousy between two women over a husband led to affray charges in municipal court. Davie Jane Peace and Fannie McCullough were found guilty, ordered to pay costs and doctor’s bill. A man named McDonald, described as a negro, was arrested near Salisbury early today and confessed to officers that he attacked the wife of a farmer near Linwood in Davidson county the previous day. Police hunted the suspect through the night to arrest him.
In Spencer on July 1 a masked crowd pursued Jim McDonald alias Auge Negro after an assault on Mrs. McCain near Linwood, Davidson County. L T Yarboro captured the suspect alone, delivering him to Sheriff Krider who then moved him to a distant jail for safety. About 100 weary citizens persisted through Ravidean swamps seeking justice.
A black man about 25 identified as McDonald alias Cunningham was captured near the Piedmont toll bridge by Deputy Yarbrough of Rowan county. He confessed to assaulting Mrs. McCain near Linwood and to a Winston-Salem murder. He was moved to Charlotte for safe keeping as tensions rose. Local officers matched the description, noting a bow tie he wore earlier.
A Louisville Courier Journal note remarks that in some countries women offer a kiss to win votes during campaigning. The piece argues this is not bribery but a campaigning method and quotes a reader about preferring a kiss to a dumb argument.

Cherryville records show Mayor John J. George imposing fines on eight drunk and disorderly offenders totaling 338.45 dollars with the highest against a defendant and the lowest from a woman, while speeders have faced similar penalties. George, once a bond buyer, now runs a cotton mill and formerly worked as a preacher and teacher.
Building permits totaling $176 300 and 25 in number were issued in June under Fire Chief A B Horney. Eleven were for new business buildings totaling $121 800, a church permit was $35 000, and 13 were for residences $19 500. Only five permits were for additions or betterments.
