Greensboro Chamber of Commerce to lead this year’s Fourth of July celebration at the Guilford Battle Ground inviting residents of High Point and nearby areas to attend. Amusement will fill the day. attendees are urged to plan meals and stay for the full day.

Birthday Dinner Honoring Vi Negels Mother At Idol Home

About 175 guests gathered Sunday two miles east of Bunker Hill at Chas Idol's home to celebrate Mrs. Vi Negels 6th anniversary. Attendees came from High Point Kernersville Waughtown Colfax Friendship and nearby areas. The feast included more than 30 large cakes chickens ham pies and other fare. Children Bud Chas and Dolph Idol and Miss Flora Stafford reside nearby with 26 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mrs Flora Payne Alf Idol and June Ellington of High Point were noted. It was a day long to be remembered.

Change in trains redirects routes after July eighth

Passenger trains Nos 21 and 22 will run via Winston Salem and Barber's Junction instead of the Greensboro Salisbury main line. The adjustment stems from strong freight demand forcing railroads to cut passenger trains and alter routes and schedules to meet conditions.

White Barber Assaulted On East Green Street

Ed Daniels a white barber on East Commerce Street was attacked by a knife wielding assailant on East Green Street after midnight. He did not recognize the attacker and suffered a deep cheek wound and severe blows. Police were alerted but details remain unclear due to late hour and lack of witnesses.

Miss Florence Bristow Injured in Auto Collision

Miss Florence Bristow daughter of Mr and Mrs S C Bristow of Fifth avenue sustained painful if not mortal injuries in a car crash at Summit avenue and Percy street. The vehicle driven by Ralph Justice struck a telephone pole after steering gear failed at high speed. Connie Bristow suffered facial cuts. others escaped unharmed.
