High Point Chamber Forms With Set Of Rules And Officers

The High Point Chamber of Commerce organized Monday night at the auditorium adopting a constitution and by laws. Fred N. Tate was named temporary president and Frank Sizemore temporary secretary with others as assistant secretaries. A sliding membership scale from 25 to 5 was set, with six executive departments planned. Elections to be held yearly in January. a financial statement will be issued semi annually. The group aims to influence the six billion loan with a four billion target, urging lawmakers to curtail the loan.

Brave Confederate veteran Peter G. Jackson of near Groome town died Saturday night in his 80th year. He served since March 1862 in Company E, 45th North Carolina, fought under Stonewall Jackson and Gen. Lee, and took part in Chancellorsville, Seven Pines, and Cold Harbor. Funeral held at Shady Grove church in Jamestown Monday morning with interment following.

Glen Alpine Murder Trial Dominates Court Hearing

In Morganton on January 28 two state witnesses identified Agron Wiseman as the Glen Alpine murderer. Fred W Amos of Rock Hill testified he saw the killer from a train window, shooting with two pistols, and matched Wiseman to the man. Ramsey Corroborated Amos with details of dress, height, and actions at the scene. Miss Elizabeth Norwood died of pneumonia in Gastonia, with funeral in Glen Alpine. The paper also notes local society items, a move to a new newspaper office, a Raleigh-based marriage, Confederate observance, and local business updates.
