Della Maxwell Rites Held at Marlboro Quaker Church

Mrs. Della Maxwell died Saturday at 608 West Lee Street Greensboro and was buried at Marlboro Quaker cemetery in Randolph County. Rev. R. M. Andrews conducted the service with family and Greensboro friends in attendance. The bereaved include her husband, children, siblings, and many relatives.

Tree to be removed for High Point Steam Laundry build

Crowder Bros proprietors of the High Point Steam Laundry plan to take down a nearly century old large oak on their East Washington street lot near People’s Motor company. The tree is a city landmark as preparations begin for the laundry building.

Indiscreet Doings in Mondays Court

In Recorder's court on Monday Ernost Croft was sentenced to 30 days on the road for an assault with a whisky bottle on John Briles. Ennos Croft’s 30 day sentence was suspended if not indicted again in 12 months. Croft paid $6 and costs. A R Williams, colored, created a spree damage case with $10 window pane damage and was ordered to pay $10 plus costs. Bert Gilliam and Will Hill each paid fines and costs for disturbing the peace after hours in front of the Broad Street Greek restaurant.

Kress Plans New Store On South Main Street

A contract for a $25,000 two story store has been awarded to W P Rose of Goldsboro for a Kress building on South Main Street extending 200 feet from Main to Rankin. Comstock Electric will handle the electrical work.

Three Questions on City Bond Vote This Voter Raises

A 20 year resident argues the bond issue requires higher taxes and questions spending plans and street priorities. He insists Main Street needs paving and suggests detailing costs and tax impact before approval.

Laymen's Convention Set for Greensboro February 9 13

High Point will cooperate with Greensboro in the Laymen's Convention to meet there February 9 to 13. J W Harriss is chairman with A E Tate as vice chairman and T D Gilliam as secretary, guiding several committees to keep the matter before the public. Large crowds from this city expected. Miss Edith Hayworth has accepted a position with Commercial National Bank.

Social Service Conference Closes Fourth Annual Session

The State Conference for Social Service ended its fourth annual session in Charlotte on January 26. It featured sermons, a mage meeting, and talks by Drs. Walter L. Lingle and W. L. Poteat. Bankruptcy decree for I A Morris & Bro store in High Point

E E Mendenhall of Greensboro filed for bankruptcy on behalf of creditors totaling 750 dollars. Judge Boyd issued the decree with Mendenhall as receiver until January 31, when a hearing is set. The Morris family operated three High Point stores but reduced to two. a Commerce Street location was vacated recently. The firm owes little to local residents.

Art glass order from Central America boosts Standard Mirror

The Standard Mirror company of this city Italy secured a sizable order for art glass work from the German Reformed church in Bluefield Nicaragua Central America. T. A. Cubit, head of the art glass department, toured South America in 1900 and hopes for more orders from the region based on that trip. Cubit is an experienced executive in the business and is advancing the firm with strong gains from the South American market.

A death report notes Mrs E Anthony of Winston died at home and was interred in Mechanicsville after a funeral by Rev C P Coble. Dr H B Hiatt Named First Lieutenant in National Guard

Gov Craig signed the petition last week making Dr H B Hiatt the first lieutenant in the Medical Department of the North Carolina National Guard. Hiatt has prior military service and is assigned to the field hospital corps No 1 in Asheville.
