Prominent High Point Woman Mrs Moore Dies of Pneumonia

Mrs Benjamin B Moore a Wesley Memorial M E Church member and active W C T U and Woman's Club worker dies after several days illness. Her death deeply shocks the community as sons serve in France and Red Cross nurses aid the war effort. Funeral services were held at Wesley Memorial Church with interment in Oakwood Cemetery.

North State Telephone Company Holds Annual Meeting

The North State Telephone Company held its annual stockholders meeting last week. Manager Hayden reported a very gratifying year with a net gain in business. Officers were reelected and the usual dividend declared. The company promotes itself as a top independent carrier offering low rates and strong service benefiting High Point and surrounding regions, with plans to expand further announced soon.

Raleigh Bills Seek Wilson Visit and War Memorial

In Raleigh on Jan 21 the senate sent to the house a joint resolution inviting President Wilson to include Raleigh on his Paris peace conference return tour and to authorize a $500 entertainment appropriation. A second joint resolution creates a memorial building for North Carolinians who died in the war, funded by popular subscription with Governor Bickett heading the committee. In the house, bills include raising the commissioner of agriculture’s salary, strengthening wartime prohibition enforcement with discretionary punishment for first offenses, equalizing punishment for secret assault, and requiring clerks of court to report appeals to the attorney general with allowed withdrawals.
