Death on Russell Street in Winston woman dies of tuberculosis

Mrs. Riggan died at her Russell street home Wednesday afternoon at 4 o clock from tuberculosis. The funeral will be Friday at 3 pm from South Main Street M E church. She leaves five children, three at the Children’s Home in Winston and two grown children living locally. She was a good woman.

City Auction Sells Horses Mules and Wagons

The city sold two horses two mules two wagons and four pair of harness at public auction yesterday. Revenue totaled 653 dollars with the two mules fetching 200 dollars. The entire sale drew generally low prices.

Woman's Club to Attend State Federation Council

Mrs J J Farris president of the club and Mrs H A White state Home Economics chair will attend the state federation council in Shelby January 26 28. About 200 delegates from North Carolina will gather with leading women to discuss federation work and the May meeting is set for High Point. The club plans to continue aiding worthy causes in High Point.

Barnes and Shields Tie Knot in Pinehurst Home

H. G. Barnes and Bertha Shields were united in marriage last week at the bride’s Pinehurst residence. The couple met during Barnes’ stay in Montrose seeking health and now reside on Ray Street, where they plan to establish their home.

Postoffice Receipts Increase in 1915

The High Point postoffice reported 1915 postal receipts of 39588.11 dollars. The last quarter of 1915 exceeded the final quarter of 1915 by 348.46 dollars. October 1915 receipts were 3659.70 versus 3564.69 in October 1914. November 1915 were 3106.15 compared with 3025.97 in 1914. December 1915 reached 3463.56. Final quarter 1915 totaled 10229.41, up from 9880.95 in 1914.

Fines and costs totaling 2207.69 were collected in the Recorder's Court from May 1 1915 to Jan 1 1916 resolving 366 cases. Of the total 432.50 covered fines while the remainder were costs.

John Burns a colored porter at the Bellwood hotel says he has sold his 16 acre farm near the Cone mills for 45000 dollars. He holds a note for this sum due June 1 from a Boston capitalist who plans to build a silk mill.

Girl and the Game installments delayed at Rose

With films for Girl and the Game not arriving, the first installment shown in The Review last week was skipped on Saturday at the Rose. The second installment will appear next week to keep both installments in the paper the same week as shown at the theater. Sam Robinson named new manager of the Fair.

Veterans of High Point Camp Hold Monthly Meeting

The High Point camp of the Confederate Veterans met at its Wachovia Bank headquarters with many veterans, the sponsor Miss I Irvin Paylor, and the committee Geo T Wood J P Rawley and W L Stamey. Commander Tom Wood praised the quarters and told the Confederate history and hoped for future true Southern histories while honoring comrades in arms. Daughters of the Confederacy and local donors provided coffee sandwiches and cigars from sponsors and firms. recent gifts include a Bible from the PASTORS Association and an electric stove from LE Rawley J L Woodson and W L Stamey.

Forger Carl Jones Gets Suspended Sentence

Carl Jones surrendered after forging an $11 check on A. J. Owens of Sunnyside Tee and Fuel. He pleaded for mercy and promised to support his wife and quit old habits. Judge Dalton granted a suspended sentence with Jones to pay costs.

Bank Officials Elected at Annual Meetings Seaward

Walter Hargett was chosen as assistant cashier of High Point Savings and Trust company at its annual meeting. E B Wall was elected assistant cashier of Commercial National Bank at its annual meeting. Both banks show healthy growth during the past year. Col Wescott Roberson attended Wachovia Bank and Trust Co directors meeting in Winston on Tuesday.

The county board orders widening of Greensboro area roads to 50 feet with 25 feet from center and optional sidewalks. Mrs. R. E. Pepper Passes at 75 in Trinity

Mrs. R E Pepper widow of Rev R E Pepper died in Trinity in her 75th year. A devout Christian and longtime M E Church member she leaves three sons J C Trinity Claude Hamlet and Edgar Pepper Thomasville. Funeral held at Trinity with note her husband once pastor of old Washington Street M E church now Wesley Memorial.
