Falls in Front of Rose Theatre on Main Street

An elderly traveler named Grady fainted on Main Street in front of the Rose Theatre while en route from El Paso to Sanford. He received care at Matton drug store from Dr. J. T. Burrus and was then moved to High Point Inn for rest. He appeared confused and could not speak much and had likely stopped there by error while en route to relatives.

Marriages on Russell Street and at Hayworth Home

On Thursday December 24 Matthew L Pollard wed Miss Vellie Wood at the Wood residence with J M Hilliard officiating. William Bodenhamer married Miss Erma Hayworth at the Hayworth home with Rev J M Hilliard conducting the second ceremony. A small wedding breakfast followed.

Marriage of Miss Constance Charles and J E Hardie

Miss Constance Charles of this city wed J E Hardie of Madison Florida on Tuesday night at 7 30 at the bride’s home corner Elm and English streets. The ceremony was conducted by Dr Henry Brown of Winston and Dr Claxton of the First Baptist church. A reception followed and the couple departed on No 38 for their honeymoon in the north amid good wishes from local and visiting family members.

House Above Moffitt Farm Destroyed in Christmas Week Fire

The handsome country home just above the H. A. Moffitt farm belonging to a South Mount gentleman was destroyed by a Christmas week fire. The owner occupied the house at the time and it was insured. Death of Mrs. Anne Fawcett Tomlinson at High Point

Obituary notes the death of Mrs. Anne Fawcett Tomlinson at age sixty eight in High Point after residence in Archdale since 1870. She led a life devoted to family church temperance work and the Friends Orphanage, survived by six children and numerous grandchildren. Burial was Christmas Eve at Springfield cemetery with a memorial service at the Home of her daughter Mrs Hauser.

Russians Close to Turkish Armies In Early War Dispatch

Russian forces reported routing portions of the Ottoman army as two Turkish columns suffered defeat in the Caucasus. Austrian forces retreat through snow while Russian cavalry press flank and rear in Transcarpathian fighting.
