Christmas gathering honors veterans sponsor in High Point

Local veterans club hosted a Christmas New Year’s meeting at the Enterprise office hall with 20+ relatives present. Miss I Irvin Paylor led planning assisted by Zillah Smith Avery Marguerite Kirkman and others as Rev. Rowe Rev. Dixon and Commander Wood spoke. Donations from Cone Jenkins Boren and many locals funded food gifts and decorations amid Confederate flags and garlands.

Veteran blacksmith dies peacefully at Franklin Street home

Thomas S. Haney a Civil War veteran died at his Franklin Street home Sunday morning at age 79. Known for many years as a horse shoer he leaves a wife and eight children. He was not a member of the local camp but attended the funeral with they attended the funeral.

Jamestown Lady Dead at Home in Jamestown

Mrs. M. M Lemar died at her Jamestown home Tuesday night in her 69th year after a stroke six months earlier. Survived by four children. Funeral services held at Fairfield this morning conducted by Revs. Robbins and Neese. Guilford County courthouse project slated for 1917. Library Mass Meeting to be held at the auditorium tomorrow night.

Lindsay Table Co to Expand Plant Capacity On Cecil Street

The Lindsay Table Co plans to install machinery and add to its Cecil street plant to double current capacity. The firm reports strong patronage. Officers include Ww. C. Jones as president R. F. Jones as vice president and J. A Lindsay as secretary and treasurer.

Ten Year Old Girl Dies From Burns Near Fairfield

Ten year old Pearl Robbins, residing near Fairfield church, died Thursday from burns suffered the prior Tuesday when her clothing caught fire from a stove. Doctors tried to save her but she died. Funeral services were held at Fairfield church on Friday with many friends in attendance.

A. Friend A. Upton of Route 1 Seagrove visited during the holidays and stayed with his daughter Mrs. Percy Wall on East Green Street. He reported catching over 150 rabbits this season and a above average crop of potatoes and eggs. His son works for the Southern Power Co. at Great Falls, South Carolina, and is doing well.

Benno the Bakery Man Leaves Town Under Cloud of Debt

High Point loses its sole bakery as Benno and his wife depart after accruing $500 in flour debt, two months’ rent, and purchases including furs clothing and jewelry. They wired funds to the bank, bought a $146 jewelry item, paid with a worthless check, and left on the morning train toward Greensboro then Brooklyn with plans to sail for Germany. Police are notified to recover the couple and the remaining assets.
