Independent telephone men meet in North State Co. plant tour

The Carolinas and Virginia independent telephone men met in session on Tuesday and Wednesday with about fifteen exchanges represented by fifty delegates. Officers were elected and the North State Co. plant received high praise as 24 cities and 15,139 telephones were represented.

Earthquake Felt Across South Warns of Aftermath

Monday evening at 6 40 many High Pointers felt a tremor lasting about a minute. The quake was widely felt in the South and was the most pronounced here since the 1886 big quake.

Francis Williard Memorial Service Held at Local Church

Francis Williard memorial services were held at the First Baptist church Sunday night with President Mrs. B. E. Moore of the local W C V T U presiding. When asked about the whiskey question, about 1,000 people rose and voiced support for America as a temperance nation. Revs. Townsend Rowe Claxon and Farriss spoke, and the meeting was noted as helpful and likely influential.

Hammer Exonerated Vindicated by Justice Department Letters

The Commercial National Bank representing the Mercantile Trust and Deposit Co of Baltimore won a $125,000 loan for road construction. The money will be used to build the High Point to Greensboro highway at an interest rate of 4.25 percent.
