What a Queer Looking Light It Would Be

Five Lectures On Vital Topics By Woman's Club

The Woman's Club of High Point schedules five free Friday night lectures at 8 o'clock in the auditorium. Next Friday, the 19th, Prof. E. C. Branson will speak on Come, Let Us Live With Our Children, followed by Prof. McKee on Recitals from Modern American Humorists on the 26th. Also note court verdicts and local notices including patients' illnesses and property work.

New Drinking Fountains Installed for Public Use

Three new drinking fountains have been installed at the post office corner East Washington and Main and at the depot square. A foot pedal releases pure water, keeping the fountains sanitary. Animal fountains have been in place for some time and Mayor Tate commends the city officials for this public improvement.

High Point City Promotes Growth and Industry

High Point North Carolina promotes itself as the leading furniture manufacturing city in the United States. It highlights population around 15 000 with suburbs, 80 manufacturing plants including 50 furniture factories, and the largest lumber plant in the South. The city offers cheap electric power, a street railway, 25 miles of streets, and favorable bonds and inducements for business growth.

Red Men to Observe Washington's Birthday in Wigwam

The Red Men of the city will observe Washington's Birthday next Wednesday night at their wigwam with exercises led by Prof. Dr. Weatherly of Franklinville as principal speaker. The public is invited to attend. program begins at 7:45.

President Hobbs to resign Guilford College post

Greensboro Feb 17 President L L Hobbs has resigned as head of Guilford College after thirty years. He will be succeeded at the end of the school year by Dr. Thomas Newlin president of Whittier College Passadena California and former Guilford dean. Newlin is described as a splendidly equipped man.

Anti Jug Bill Faces Mixed Action In State Legislature

Raleigh February 17 The house committee killed the crop lien law demanded by the Farmers Union tonight but the senate reported it favorably. It may reach the lower house though strong opposition to repeal ran deep among senators off the committee. Hearing on High Point government form set for Friday

Mayor Tate has arranged a hearing with the committee on cities towns and counties for the commission form of government in High Point. A large local turnout is expected as supporters and opponents of disenfranchisement prepare to travel to Raleigh tomorrow morning. Citizens urged to attend tonight's indignation meeting at the auditorium at 7:30.

Store Building Remodeled After Lengthening 45 Feet

Thacker's shoe store has been lengthened by 45 feet and is undergoing interior remodeling with a metal ceiling and new papered walls. Upon completion the shop will present a neat appearance with the gents' furnishing department in the rear under Mr. Stone and the shoe department at the front.

Lights to blaze on White Way as cars arrive soon

Manager Jennings of the N C Public Service Company says the 300 white lights will soon blaze on the White Way though a delay delays the big globes until late in the week. A solid car of fixtures is due and lights may turn on early next week. California cars visit Feb 22 23 24 25 offering a treat and a free souvenir for all visitors.

The Review editor received a card from W. J. Armfield Sr celebrating his 71st birthday with the poem My Swan Song. It speaks of a life well lived, beauty in nature, and faith, hoping he writes more and enjoys calm days ahead.

Negro Slayer of Deputy Hinted in Inquiry from Edgerton

Sheriff Stafford received a letter from Edgerton West Virginia authorities asking if John Cicle, a Negro held under arrest there, was wanted for the murder of Deputy Sheriff William Scott, a crime believed to have occurred about ten years ago.

Basel Switzerland February 17 telegraph from Berlin states Emperor William will apologize in person to James W Gerard American ambassador to Germany for the hostile demonstration in a Berlin theater on February 9.
