Despite expectations a Cabarrus county jury acquitted Gaston Means of the murder of Mrs. Maude King. On Sunday morning New York authorities announced plans to extradite Means to face embezzlement and forgery charges, noting no special papers are needed for such a charge.

It promotes ten cents buys one day of life, three dollars one month, and three dollars one year, inviting remittances to 142 Berkley Street Boston Mass. The new questionnaires under the draft law were received by 174 citizens of High Point Saturday and Monday. Seven days are given to answer the questions and place them with the local exemption board. Failure to properly execute the papers is punishable by up to one year in jail and loss of other rights. Mrs O W Carr longtime Trinity resident died Saturday afternoon after an extended illness in her 76th year. Wife of the late O W Carr and formerly Roxanna Leahh before marriage she leaves two daughters Mrs Dred Peacock and Mrs J C Pepper and three sons are dead. Rev Mr Johnson conducted the funeral at Trinity Sunday with interment there. Many from this place and Greensboro attended. Mrs Carr was a lifelong Methodist Episcopal member.
The National Prohibition amendment cleared the House by 282 to 128 with 26 votes over the required two thirds. Congressman Yates Webb of North Carolina earned praise as the bill's father. States have seven years to ratify, and most wet states are seen approving within two years. The Senate is expected to back the measure with little opposition.
Rev. J. R. Scroggs well known here died suddenly in Marion Monday morning. He served fifty years in the Methodist church. Surviving are son Clarence Scroggs city editor of the Winston Salem Journal and daughters Stella Scroggs of Marion and Mrs W G Fortune of Asheville. Remains interred at Shelby Wednesday.
