Senator Johnson enters 1916 race as direct to people candidate

California Senator Hiram W. Johnson formally announced his bid for the Republican nomination for the presidency. He plans a personal campaign in every state to appeal to the electorate directly, bypassing convention politics. The move energizes the presidential contest with other major figures already in, including Poindexter Sutherland Harding Wood and Lowden. The Salvation Army plans Christmas baskets for over 200 poor children and fuller aid for older poor residents. Captain H B Mills said that no one would be overlooked in bringing Christmas cheer and food baskets to the community.

Young Pollock Suffers Broken Leg At Home

DeConiey Pollock three years old son of Mr and Mrs D M Pollock 905 North Main Street broke his leg Friday morning at 10 o clock while playing with friends at home He climbed a chair lost balance and his foot was caught in the chair arm He received medical attention and is resting easy this afternoon He is brother to Maressa Pollock who has had diphtheria for several weeks.

Emma Goldman and Alexander Berkman, longtime companions in radical activity in the United States, left the mainland today likely for good. The party of O Arthur Kirkman and M J Wrenn secured passports to Cuba Porto Rico Jamaica and other southern points and plan a year end voyage visiting C A Kirkman Jr studying in Havana. High Point Boys Fall to Lexington in Armory Contest

In Greensboro, the High Point varsity boys lost 15 to 8 to Lexington. Everhart led Lexington with strong plays, while High Point's Ingram and Thomas excelled on defense. The second teams of High Point and Trinity also played, with High Point winning. The girls lost to Greensboro 43 to 4, marking the second season defeat by Gate City.

Death of Lester Parker Attributed to Heart Valve Break

An autopsy conducted by Dr. T. M. Stanton on Lester Parker, a Kearns Furniture Company employee, found death caused by a broken heart valve. Parker collapsed while loading furniture onto a truck. coworkers ruled out accidental furniture crush, noting the piece weighed little. His body remained at a local undertaker awaiting relatives.
