Community Christmas tree drive held by High Point clubs

The Enterprise The Review and local newspapers joined forces with the Woman's Club to raise funds for a Christmas tree and stockings for poor children. Contributions sought from residents. boxes placed in stores for donations. a committee will solicit funds and a tree will be placed on Main Street. Also noted is a Superior Court case where the city sought a show cause suit and the firemen appealed to the Supreme Court after prior council decisions over fire department equipment.

Tuberculosis Week and Elks Memorial Services Highlight Local Events

Tuberculosis week opens with free examinations for the needy led by Drs. McCain and Burrus in High Point. A memorial service for five deceased BPOE members drew a large audience with Judge Phil C. Cocke of Asheville delivering the annual address on charity and brotherly love.

Two Marriages Record December Weddings in Local Church

December 5 1910 two weddings were officiated by Rev P D Brown. Ray Davis wed Miia Fannie Easley at the Lutheran church with the ceremony led by Rev P D Brown. A second couple, Chas E Haithcock and Miss Bella Hicks, were married on December 4 also officiated by Rev P D Brown.

United States District Court Opens December Term

Judge Boyd convened the December term of the United States District Court Monday at 10 o clock. About 47 criminal cases appear on the docket with expectation they will be disposed of to allow the civil docket to be taken up early next week.

High Point council votes bonds and city projects

City Council met Tuesday night and instructed attorneys to draft papers for a bond election to authorize up to 50,000 dollars. Work to pave Comm street from Hamilton to Main proceeds. Boy Scouts receive free lights for a public Xmas tree. 250 dollars allocated to the military company. Endorsed Greensboro training camp project and asked Major Stedman to push it in Congress. 200 dollars authorized to place a bed on the electric truck and to advertise for sale of horses and mules. S. L. Davis stood in as mayor in W. P. Pickett's absence.

Road Improvements Near High Point to Finish by December

Road work on the High Point Greensboro route is advancing quickly and should be completed by December 25. The two miles of highway are described as exceptionally fine in appearance. The Archdale road project is also slated for completion within the month.

Business Men's Dinner at Manufacturer's Club January

Towns' secretaries of Boards for Trade and Chamber of Commerce invited to a January banquet shaping into a Business Men's Dinner with local members. MecCollum and Filmore Dennis, both white residents of Randleman, faced federal charges under the Mann White Slave Act after hearings before United States Commissioner D H Collins. Bound over to district court on $2000 bonds they could not post, their arrest Monday by Deputy Marshal Boger followed a Sunday arrest by Greensboro officers after relatives of Madge Oaks and Ethel Russell identified them at a local rooming house. The case, originally local, moved to federal jurisdiction. Guilford County court house property title remains clear per the supreme court ruling. Henry Davis, a well known colored man, is seriously ill.

Return of Jewel at Broadway Next Tuesday

Due to high demand Broadway shows Jewel featuring Ella Hall again on Tuesday December 13th. Manager Wagoner booked a return date after 1,000 patrons previously attended and many were turned away. The program runs at the popular picture house and promises to accommodate more viewers. The article also notes the Recorder’s court completed fifty three cases in November with fifty convictions and over $350 in costs and fines.

Damon and Pythias Delayed by Delivery Mix Up at Broadway

Hundreds in High Point missed the Damon and Pythias show at Broadway due to a wrong delivery location and late discovery. Those who saw it praised it highly, comparing it to Birth of a Nation in magnitude. Ed. Trogdon received six months on Guilford's roads and, with J. McLeod, was fined five dollars for disturbing the peace amid a latescene incident. The Girl Who Dared drew a large audience at the auditorium with strong local talent. Pointer Club Trials Highlight 15th Annual Meet in Furniture City

Dog fanciers gather as the Pointer Club of America hosts the 15th annual trials with about forty members in attendance. A long entry of notable hounds competes for many prizes. The Merchants Association presented a handsome desk as the stake prize in the subscription event, won Wednesday by Fairy Beau in the all age class.

Fire at Moontown Destroys Store and Home

Tuesday night a blaze at 11:30 in Moontown leveled A. Davis's store and contents worth about 750 dollars and destroyed Annie Turner's house with an estimated loss of 500 dollars. Firefighters acted to prevent further damage. Also noted is the upcoming two installments of "Neal of the Navy" to appear next week.
