A drunken driver causes fatal crash near High Point
An automobile wreck on the Thomasville road near High Point killed Mrs. M. J. Weatherman and left five others injured. Driver G. R. Chaney, employed by the Southern Car Company, was jailed awaiting Davidson county deputy to Lexington for charges of intoxicated driving. The group, en route to Lexington to visit relatives, included Bettie Davis, two of her grandchildren, and Cleo Clanneger. Chaney claimed speed near 25 to 40 mph. the car rolled, all occupants thrown clear. Mrs. Weatherman died three hours later. Remains sent to Statesville for interment.
