Wagner of the Broadway theatre has closed a contract with E. W. Wattman of Greensboro an expert piano player to furnish music for all shows starting Thursday with Damon and Pythias. Music will be adapted to each picture and enhance interest at the up to date theatre.

Frank Burns claimed Philadelphia as his home and was arrested here last week for attempting to dispose of pawn tickets at a drastic discount. Officers believe the scheme a fraud against city statutes as the tickets offered to Jim Clements D W Welborn Joe Levine Marshall Thacker and others were as low as two dollars on a ninety dollar diamond ring. Burns was released after no charge could be held.

Death by self action shocks Express Agent Marsh

Mystery surrounds the death of Express Agent S. B. Marsh in Thomasville last week. The practical cause given is ill health that unbalanced his mind. Marsh told an auditor he might be $50 or $60 short but later his books were found correct, negating the shortage theory. He appeared to be suffering a nervous hallucination.

Thanksgiving Day Visit at Welborn Home

The editor and family with J L Kirkman enjoyed a delightful Thanksgiving at Grandpa and Grandma David Welborn’s home. Seventeen people, including Rev Shelton’s wife and child, shared a warm dinner and a day of hunting possums and rabbits before returning home.

The Associated Charities led a city wide meeting at the school auditorium to review the past year and plan for the coming year. Geology Class Studies High Rock Disturbance

University of North Carolina geologists led by Prof. Collier Cobb are examining soil conditions at High Rock after a previously unexplained earth disturbance. The group conducts spring and autumn field trips to observe soil in various state areas and recently focused on the High Rock site.

Guilford Superior Court Civil Term Opens Next Week

The December civil term of Guilford Superior Court begins Monday with 89 cases on the calendar. Most will not be tried in court, many likely to be disposed of by non-suit. A two week criminal term follows, with over 30 prisoners awaiting trial and numerous defendants under bond. Judge H M Justice will preside over both terms.

Mrs. G N Conrad died at her South Main street home Wednesday night after a long illness with paralysis listed as the immediate cause. Survived by husband and four children. Hopewell Aims to Become Independent City with Modern Rail Access

Hopewell plans to print three local papers but currently does so from Richmond. Power installations will move printing to Hopewell. A new trolley line Petersburg to Hopewell is under construction but timing depends on excavation work. If Hopewell grows into an independent city with its own government and rail access, it could become a strong, energetic community.
