Dr McAnally forgot to place his car at the depot and officers searched for it. Chief Gray went to Thomasville and planned Salisbury travel before Ed Mungo spotted the car by the depot and ended the chase.

Tropical hurricane devastates Galveston docks and streets

The tropical hurricane swept southern Texas causing three foot water on Galveston streets. Docks, houses, and wires were damaged, leaving the city dark as residents sought shelter aboard government boats. Coastal farms face heavy losses and over 100 deaths are reported so far, with damages totaling well above 50 million dollars.

North Carolina Conference elects officers and notes meetings

The North Carolina Conference of Seventh Day Adventists reports large crowds and diligent work. C. R. Callicott of Greensboro elected secretary treasurer of the conference and of the North Carolina Tract Society. The secretary treasurer posts go to Callicott. Amos Tate, a negro, was convicted of assault in Recorder's court Thursday and sentenced to 30 days on the road. He threatened to use a knife on Olia Wilson, colored, after slapping her.

Typhoid Fever Claims Young Man

Columbus Hinshaw, stepson of S. E. Willis, died Monday night of typhoid fever. He was chief engineer at Sunny Side Ice and Fuel Co. In 1908 he married Bessie Perry. four children survive. Funeral held yesterday at 4 p.m. at South Main Street M. E. Church, member of the church. Sympathy expressed for the family.

Typhoid Victim Jake Treadway Dies at Local Hospital

Jake Treadway, employed at the Elwood hotel, died this morning at the local hospital from typhoid fever.
