Giant Furniture Company expands with two new buildings

Giant Furniture Company has started additions to its plant and expects completion by October 1. The project adds 10125 square feet to finishing rooms and an 80 by 120 feet annex to machine rooms over two stories, doubling floor space from about 50 000 to roughly 100 000 square feet and boosting output from 300 000 to 500 000 dollars annually. Electric power will drive the machinery under map maker John H. Shaw, noted for the factory’s rapid growth.

Lindsay Table Co Fire Causes $150000 Damage

A small blaze Monday near noon caused about 150000 dollars in damage to Lindsay Table Co inside the town limits on the west. The fire began in a pile of shavings in the boiler room and scorched the boiler area and one end of the dry kiln. Firemen extinguished the flames quickly.

No Good Check Ended in Forgery Case Dismissal

John Brewer of Glenola settled a dispute with C. F. Hauser of Gilmer Bros over a disputed check. The court dismissed the forgery case after Brewer’s check was honored and costs paid. Brewer explained he did business as Glenola and did not use the firm name on the check, leading to the bank refusal and the saying all’s well that ends well.

Mrs. Mary L. Alexander aged 46 died Saturday afternoon from organic heart disease. Survived by husband J. A. H. Alexander and four sons and four daughters. Funeral from home Sunday with Dr. G. T. Rowe, burial at Trinity. Rev. E. N. Crowder officiated at burial. Also note: wife of Bishop James Atkins died in Waynesville Tuesday from a paralytic stroke.

Death of Myrtle Mendenhall 17 at Asheboro Street

Myrtle Mendenhall the 17 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs M F Mendenhall of Asheboro Street died Tuesday evening. Funeral services were held at the family home Wednesday evening by Rev Sylvester Newlin of the Friends Church and interment took place at Springfield.
