High Point sent a good showing at Greensboro’s opening pro league game. City streets were crowded with shoppers and theatergoers. Dunbar and Sechrest will occupy two new stores in East Washington street. Marr enjoyed a 10th grade field trip to Attic Ice plant. Registration for bonds to fund a new County Court house is open. Ads in the Proverb Page invite readers to special offers. First Reformed church hosts meetings. Baptist church to host an ongat musical by Mrs Kephart and Mr Reinhart. The Mellichampe family leaves for Bran don Va to reside as Rev and Mrs Mellichampe take new parish. West End Baptist hosts evangelistic meetings led by John W Ham with Prof A A Lyon as singer. Mrs Geo A Metin recovers well from operation at Salisbury Whitehead Stokes Sanitarium. Dr Matton spends time at bedside. N S Telephone Co manager Hayden shows improvement. A new North Carolina bill makes it a misdemeanor to publish any advertisement that is untrue deceptive or misleading with intent to defraud in news bills handbills posters circulars or other public notices and applies to merchandise securities or services.

Fire destroys High Point Casket Co plant

A Saturday morning blaze destroyed the High Point Casket Co plant before dawn. The cloth room origin spread rapidly, burning the building to the ground with an estimated 16000 in losses including 3500 in the structure 5500 in machinery and 7000 in stock. The company shows 10000 in insurance. Secretary R A Wheeler lost papers. superintendent Eugene Andrews was away. Rebuilding is considered possible. Tuesday evening Mrs. F. E. Creel entertained in honor of Mrs. Wm. Dinsmore of Montgomery Alabama. The Baraca class plans a May banquet inviting Philatheas. Elk's Cotillion Club met Friday night with merriment 8 to 11. Thursday afternoon Mrs. J. Albert Hart hosted Over the Tea Cups Club on English street. Prizes went to Mrs. Robert Walker and Mrs. Chas. Ragan. A salad course was served. Mrs. R. B. White hosted the Missionary Society of the First Baptist church Monday. The civic and social service departments of the Woman's Club met yesterday in Lincoln.

Automobile Crash Near Oak Hill Churches Injures Thacker and Holder

Sunday afternoon near Oak Hill church the Ford of W M Thacker left the road and fell into a deep gully. Occupants J Bert Holder and Thacker were only slightly hurt with Holder receiving finger wounds and Thacker feeling shaken. The car, recently purchased, was being driven with Holder coaching. Thacker’s shoe store will undergo extensive improvements after May 10 with a grand sale and remodel planned to create a leading shoe and gentlemen’s furnishings store in the state.

The City League opened with Baracas of M P church defeating Durham Hosiery Mills 12 to 0. Highland Cotton Mills beat Southern Car Co 10 to 0, signaling strong forms for Baracas and Highland mills teams.

Baby Contest winners near perfect scores at Wesley Memorial

At Wesley Memorial M E church the Better Babies contest awards were announced. Little Miss Emily Ingram topped with 99.75 points earning a Woman's Home Companion bronze medal and a silver cup plus a ward fund gift. Prizes went to top scorers in three divisions with cups and refrigerators for second prizes. The event honored chairman Mrs H B Hiatt and program head Mrs A F Eshelman for leading the effort.
