Trinity High School Commencement Exercises Recap

Sunday sermon by Rev. M. L. Kesler of the Thomasville Orphanage opened the Trinity High School program. The following days featured primary recitals, a single graduate Miss Bertie Coltrane with The Wandering Jew, J E Abernathy delivering a well received literary address, 10th and 8th grade honors, a declamation contest won by Homer Coltrane, and dramatic exercises Out in the Streets. The event concluded with a large crowd and high praise for the ceremony.

Hosiery Mill to Occupy Former Thomasville Female College

J. H. Adams of this city has purchased the brick three story building once used as Thomasville Female College under Prof. H. W. Reinhardt. The former college will be converted into a hosiery mill for immediate operation with the aim of manufacturing hosiery on the site.

Noble War Savings Responses Highlight Negro Contributions

An Ohio man sold his property to buy government war bonds then joined the army. North Carolina’s negroes show similar noble effort in the war savings drive. The first $100 certificate in Chatham County was bought by a colored woman, cook for Olive Webster, postmistress at Siler City. Several African Americans have reached the $1,000 limit club. When names are published it will be a roll of honor for their race.

The editor and his venerable friend David Welborn of Route 1 Thomasville will host guests this Sunday to observe their birthdays. Welborn born April 28 and the editor born April 26 mark a yearly gathering at the Welborns home now in its fifth year.

Paul Cobb brother of Ty Cobb the Detroit outfielder and former big league player has enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and heads to the Paris Island training camp. He previously played for Detroit Cleveland and Topeka with light batting cited as a reason for his exit from the major leagues. He joins Dots Miller and Big Clarke already at Paris Island.
