In High Point on April 17, the High Point professionals beat Guilford College 6 to 3. Both teams scored in the early innings, Guilford tied it in the fourth, but High Point pulled away with two-run frames in the seventh and eighth. Stilley Pardoned After Governor Clemency
L F Stilley white gentleman recently convicted in municipal court of assaulting his mother Martha Stilley and sentenced to 20 days on the roads plus a $50 fine. Governor Pickett granted a pardon after a plea from the mother. The defendant paid the fine. Attorney J T Gold represented him. Egbert Lee negro held for Guilford superior court on breaking and entering with a $500 bond. perjury case not heard. Greeda Frye and Anna Deberry pleaded guilty to affray. Anna fined $10, Greeda taxed with costs. J B Marsh paid half costs for parking within 17 feet of a hydrant. Miss Josephine Wood and Miss Elizabeth Ried of Tarboro spent weekend with her parents.

Doings of the City Council Approves playground funds and sewers
The City Council voted 1000 to build a children’s playground on North Main street and named a committee led by Mayor Stanton to procure equipment. The third ward sewer project was ordered completed, and a light on Russell Road near Cox Street was approved by a resolution. Lydia V. Johnson, 84, died suddenly at her home near Gould’s estate after a long residence in Randolph County. Her funeral was held at Ebenezer church with Rev. Samuel L. Hayworth presiding.
