Man Arrested For Profanity In Front Of Drug Company

John Stevenson was arrested this evening in front of Matton Drug Company for using profanity on the street. Caleb Camp, father of Rev. M. Luther Camp, died in Salisbury Tuesday in his 70th year. There was a dance at the armory last evening. Mrs. V J Parker is able to be out again. J A Eshelman is in Georgia on a business trip. Dr D A Stanton went to New York last week to attend clinics in metropolitan hospitals with a large group of physicians who will be away two weeks. The Guilford county commencement Saturday at the fair grounds was a huge success.

Sentence of Stout Remains Sees Road Sentence Upheld

Tuesday attorneys for Ivan Stout faced Judge Peacock in a bid to convert a six month road sentence for assault with intent to kill against Annie Jones into a fine. The judge rejected the appeal, deeming the punishment appropriate given the crime and circumstances.

City League Schedule Revealed For Opening Weekend

Play Ball is Heard as the City League announces first games this Saturday at 2 30 and 4 30. The season runs through Sept 11 with opening Carolina League action today including Greensboro at Charlotte Ashe ville at Winston Salem and Durham at Raleigh. President Lyon remains optimistic about prospects.

Verdict Set Aside Against City Over Creek Damages

In Superior Court Judge Lyon set aside a verdict of 1 375 dollars against the City of High Point. The case involved alleged damages from sewage emptying into a creek near the plaintiff's home.

Brother-in-Laws Fight Ends in Stabbing at Greensboro Store

M. M. Mays stabbed his brother-in-law A. A. Jenkins in front of the Woolworth store in Greensboro on Monday over family matters. Jenkins sustained serious wounds and Mays is jailed awaiting the outcome of his condition.

Farmers and Quakers Clash In A. and M. College Rout

The A. and M. College team defeated Guilford College 6 to 1 on Saturday afternoon. The Farmers played fast and controlled the game, overpowering the Quakers with superior speed and playmaking.

Coffin Company to Rebuild Fire-Destroyed Plant in High Point

The Samuel B. Coffin, Inc. will award a contract to rebuild its Hamilton and Clay streets plant, destroyed by fire a year ago. A 100 by 200 foot facility with modern machinery will produce high grade library suits and employ about 50 skilled workers, aiming to be market-ready by July.

Presbytery Finishes Work and Adjourns

The Orange Presbytery held its closing Thursday regular session with a Sunday school conference led by R V Mellon Clark of Greensboro. A commission for ordination of E W Thompson of Glade Valley was appointed, and delegates discussed the assembly of the Southern Presbyterian Church at Newport News Virginia in May.

A banquet at the Elwood hotel honored Mayor Fred N. Tate for six years of service. City officials, newspaper staff, and guests heard tributes from W. P. Pickett, Dr. Peacock, and others praising Tate’s work and urging continued progress for High Point.

High Point Boys Win In State Track Meet

In Chapel Hill on April 17 High Point took top three placements as Lawrence Cannon won the 440 yard dash in 57 seconds Odie Ingram finished second in the mile at 5 17 and Schultiers was fourth in the 100 yard dash Friendship won the meet and Greensboro earned the relay cup.

Our friend Chas Reith a loyal German by birth but now an American citizen wears an iron cross ring he received in exchange for a gold piece sold to aid the fatherland in its time of need.
