Allied Powers Make Small Gains as British Retake Key Positions

Reports from the front say British forces hold all Tuesday positions and recapture strategic points, yet parts of the regained ground are again yielded to Germany’s greater numbers. Allied forces still have ample artillery and ammunition but suffer from manpower shortages.

Annual Meeting of Mer Coats Merchants Association Reelects Leaders

The merchants at their annual meeting Tuesday night reelected President Gilbert W. Clark, vice-president E. M. Allen, and treasurer E. A. Hatcher to their offices. Directors named were T. J. Steed, W. W. Idol, J. R. Welch, W. D. Poor, David Harris, W. H. Gurley, A. Robinson, E. C. Dowd, and W. A. Ring. Clark reported on activities and the treasurer said the association’s finances are sound. Clark urged members to invest liberally in government securities.

Dangerous man at large accused of disloyal propaganda

A resident named Grogan has spent over a year in the community spreading anti government propaganda. He was briefly arrested for insufficient evidence, then released. With no visible income yet ample funds, he aided the poor and pushed disloyal ideas under various schemes before fleeing after a warrant was sworn. Authorities urge communities to act to stop such propaganda.

Brockett Adjudged Bankrupt in Greensboro Court

Robert Brockett of High Point was adjudged a bankrupt by a district court in Greensboro on a voluntary petition. A well known county figure, he ran a wholesale feed business and supplied other goods from his High Point establishment, with ties to local political life.
