Youthful Thief Nabbed After Bold Escape from Police

Lawrence Phillips a 13 year old boy known for frequent thefts was arrested after a dramatic chase. He reportedly climbed drainage pipes from City Hall to escape and was found in the Redding building with stolen goods including flashlights pistols rings and knives. His father works at Tomlinson Chair Mfg Co and the family lives on Ward street. The trial was set for today.

Assault Upon Limb of Law Ends With Road Sentences

Tad Welborn and Saphronia Shaw, both colored, received four months and two months respectively for resisting arrest. Officer Carroll was assaulted and used a 14 ounce billy to subdue them as the law prevailed. The prosecuting attorney favored making an example of the case. The recorder agreed and imposed the sentences.

Nine year old Radford and son of A W Heerick died of pneumonia Tuesday. Funeral services were held at the Willowbrook Street residence yesterday afternoon with interment at Prospect. The mother died last month.

Boy Struck By Ford Car Injures Young Rider

A twelve year old boy named Ernest Cassady was struck by a Ford railway inspection car near the Carolina and Yadkin River Railway yesterday and seriously wounded in the head. He was seated on the track and the operators did not see him.

Robbery at Greensboro Vault Involves Two Suspects

Rob Vault Gilbert Newell and Walter Bradly robbed the N. P S Co vault in Greensboro Sunday morning securing about $500 with most recovered. Newell found unconscious in the vault wounded. later arrested with Bradly. At trial Newell received two years probation while Bradly was jailed for default of a $1,000 bond.

Earle Palmer and wife Annie faced an indictment for retailing with several vials of the so called crazy fluid found in their possession. Earle received four months in jail while Annie was acquitted. Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie V. Craven were conducted Friday at 11 a.m. by Rev. S. D. Shelton of Welch Memorial M. E. Church. Contested will case in Davidson County over Main Street property

An 1884 will of the late S A Cecil is challenged after the death of his widow Nancy Cecil. Three heirs claim the Main Street store building valued around 15000 as part of the estate, while others dispute the bequest. The suit seeks to determine the true intent of the will and its phrasing.
