Boy Almost Killed in Dog Attack at Amarillo Street Fight
Eddie Waking, 10, son of F. Salling from Canyon City, escaped with severe injuries after a vicious dog mauled his face neck head and shoulders. A shepherd dog owned by Mrs. J. B. Montgomery intervened, grabbing the attacking animal as neighbors rushed in and rescued the boy. He remains in a dangerous condition.

Theodore Van Holdt, five, wandered from his Canyon country home while his mother and four others searched near Leader store. Sheriff Sanford organized a wider hunt and Frank Fenton located the boy eight miles away tending cows. At 1 30 that night Fenton brought Theodore to his mother.

Allerton the Great Dies at Twenty Three in Iowa History
Allerton, Kentucky bred and Iowa reared, died July 17 at Indianola Iowa aged 23 from age related decline. He and half brother Axtell made Iowa famous in horse racing, shaping Independence as a rival to Lexington. Charley Williams of Independence and later Moose Jaw Canada helped launch two world famous sires from their efforts and became a prominent Northwest farmer and devout, itinerant preacher after a Galesburg conversion by Billy Sunday.
