Fruit growers at Spokane on November 20 form a united Pacific Northwest association aimed at expanding the industry. Orchardists pledge cooperation to solve distribution transportation and utilization issues and to pull together for a stronger market.
A Spokane gathering of 115 business and farming leaders endorsed cooperative marketing for apples and other fruits from Idaho Montana Oregon and Washington. They called for a December 16 1912 delegates meeting in Spokane to craft a plan ensuring fair distribution and remunerative prices through a common marketing system.
At the Fifth National Apple Show in Spokane last week, more than 3,000,000 apples filled about 2,000 exhibits. The Spokane boosters baked an enormous pie weighing 19 tons, using 500 bushels of apples, 1.25 tons of sugar, 500 pounds of spices, butter, eggs, lemons, salt, and 2,500 pounds of flour. It took 2.5 hours to cook and two hours to serve the crowd.
