Sugar interest faces obstacle in Baltimore Refining case
In Baltimore on November 25 the sugar combination’s control of the Baltimore Sugar Refining Company is challenged. Lawyers say a recent director election, replacing Baltimore residents with aliados of the sugar trust, may be illegal under Maryland law requiring a majority of directors to be state residents. The old board planned to begin Curtis Bay plant operations by mid December, employing about six hundred workers. The minority stockholders fear the election void and may call a new stockholders meeting to restore Maryland representation and avoid legal conflict.
