Paris Telephone Rates Spark Debate With New York
Paris residents may use private telephones for a year at 490f with state maintenance. Lyons offers 300f and lower rates where overhead lines exist. For populations over twenty five thousand the annual fee is 200f, under twenty five thousand 150f. The piece contrasts French rates and public policy with American monopoly profits, noting supplementary subscriptions, concierge and department switches, and postoffice telephones included at standard telegram costs. It also mentions a separate Poison case in Ballston Spa about Mrs. Parkhurst and John Blake and a coroner's exhumation in Oswego County.
