Women Trainers in New England Harness Racing

A New England trend shows half a dozen women training and driving horses, led by Mrs Sarah B Crosby of Lustrewater, Mass, and others in Maine and Massachusetts. They compete in circuit trotting, with Mrs Meader winning a 224 class race at Pottsfell, Me, while Miss Esther Prescott and Miss Nellcot also place well. The women balance family life with horses, riding styles, and even bloomers on track. Veterinary surgery and stock farming are expanding fields for women, with Mrs Pheve Labor Willets at Rosslyn, L T, building a major dairy and horse business and joining cattle associations.
