Baldy Barney Rollins and the Wig Dream Crown
A fifteen year old boy loses his hair to illness and endures ridicule while secretly saving for a wig. He works nights to earn money, hides it from his alcoholic father, and shares with his mother to shelter the fund in a savings society. A precious sister’s illness tests his resolve, yet his hope for dignity persists as years pass and his bald head gleams like a crown amid a grim alley life.

Exporting House-boats to Paris via Channel voyage
The houseboat and tender built for La Comtesse de Bearn of Paris arrived safely after three weeks, completing a Channel crossing of twelve hours from Gravesend. The voyage continued via Calais, small rivers and canals to Conflans where the Seine enters, about forty miles below Paris. Horses and tugs propelled the craft amid keen interest as the first of this type to cross the Channel and to be seen on French waters.
