Abbott case fuels sympathy in Shreveport editorials
The Shreveport Progress editorials defend S L Abbott, a 24 year old publisher jailed after killing a young black porter who insulted him. They argue the crime was morally wrong but claim only God and Abbott know the facts, criticize the jury and judge, and describe Abbott as a hardworking, respectable young man from a poor family. The piece calls for support for Abbott and his orphaned sister and brother, praising local leaders who offered aid.
