On January 1 1896 W E Maples left The Progress and the undersigned take charge to publish in their own interest. The notice credits Mr Maples with retiring to focus on law and asks public support. W E Maries resigns as associate editor and condemns Blanchard in a heated political appeal urging Morehouse representatives to back N C Blanchard out of the Senate.
