Louisiana Prospect for Constitutional Convention on 1898 Ballot
The act proposes a January 1898 vote to authorize a constitutional convention in New Orleans on the second Tuesday of February 1898. It would consist of 134 delegates and have broad powers to draft a new state constitution while preserving limits on debt, taxes, levee and officer terms. Voting instructions specify for or against a constitutional convention and delegate elections be held under existing laws.
